AIChE ENV Div Webinar by Néstor Y. Rojas
The COVID-19 pandemic and the study of air quality are linked in several ways. Firstly, this disease is spread by SARS-CoV-2, an airborne coronavirus, mainly in poorly ventilated environments with low indoor air quality. Secondly, its effects on the respiratory system have been shown to be exacerbated by previous chronic exposure to high levels of ambient air pollutants. Thirdly, the lockdown measures imposed to try to slow the spread of the epidemic changed the patterns of economic activities and their associated emissions, altering atmospheric chemistry and air pollution levels. This webinar explores the dynamics of these linkages and their characteristics in the Latin American context.
